HACKATHON:
TOO MUCH WATER, TOO LITTLE WATER!
An initiative of Emerging Business Factory and its foundation that aims to bring together technology and innovation players around the use of digital technology to collectively design innovative solutions to the problem of water stress.
HACKATHON OVERVIEW
Emerging Business Factory, its Foundation, the GIZ – German Cooperation in Sustainable Development, the CGEM – and the region of Marrakech Safi and the Communal Council of the city of Marrakech are organizing the first “Water Hackathon” from 13 to 15 December 2019.
THE CHALLENGE
Too much water, too little water!
This hackathon aims to make the use of water in the region a sustainable and eco-responsible consumption mode. It is part of the draft national water plan to avoid the country’s problems due to the shortage of drinking water and irrigation by 2050.
A challenge to be developed in three distinct environments:Agriculture (70% of world consumption),Industry (22%), and Domestic consumption (8%).
THE PARTICIPANTS
The hackathon is open to engineers, designers, developers, entrepreneurs, startups, citizens and elected officials.
Participants can register as individuals or as a team.
AFTER THE HACKATHON
At the end of these two days, a jury will reward three projects according to three criteria: degree of innovation, speed of implementation and degree of Impact. The project teams will benefit from the support and expertise of Emerging Business Factory and its partners to prototype and deploy their project.

Challenge 1: Optimize irrigation in an accessible manner
IRRIJAR: To make a clay diffuser, ecological, recyclable and durable in order to save irrigation water.

Challenge 2: Optimize domestic and/or professional uses for a more intelligent management of water resources
MorYWat: A patented technique for the mobile treatment of industrial wastewater to neutralize or recycle it.

Challenge 3: Involve and educate water resource users
Wudu: A device for performing the ritual of ablution. It helps to combat water waste, especially for those who leave the tap running throughout the ritual.
